President’s Message 2011

In the light of the unrest and transformations we see happening globally in the last couple of months, one point to note is that they are a result of unhappiness over perceived unfairness, especially among young people. Thus, as society evolves, change is to be expected. The status quo can no longer be maintained. Singapore, with its status as a first world country, will have to eventually show more care and concern for its citizens too in line with its policy to listen to the ground. Eventually we hope to see a truly gracious and caring society.

We, in the Society, HSS, would also like to listen to the ground. What then are your aspirations for your Society in this changing social climate? Do you have new ideas or innovations that you would like to see in the near future for our Society? If you have, we want to encourage you to come forward. We would like the Society to move forward and change is necessary. And this change must come from you, the stakeholders in the Society. Therefore, we welcome new blood, a new generation, to come forward to take the reins.

Last year, I made a call for more new people to come forward to help the committee to run the Society. This year I am appealing to you again. We have seen some positive responses last year. However, we need more of you to come forward in order to see more progress.
